Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship 2018

The U.S. Embassy in Yangon is pleased to announce the annual competition for the academic year 2017 Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program.

WHAT: A one-year funded program that sends accomplished professionals to the United States for graduate-level academic coursework and related professional experiences. Fellows are selected based on their potential for national leadership and commitment to public service in either the public or private sector. The Humphrey Program is NOT a degree program and grants are NOT renewable.


WHO: Experienced professionals, scholars, faculty, and others with at least five years professional experience.

To be eligible for a Humphrey Fellowship, applicants:

 must be from Myanmar and university graduates;
 must have at least five years full-time professional experience in the relevant field;
 must have demonstrated leadership qualities, a record of public service and potential for professional advancement;
 must have written permission from their employers to participate in the program, should they be selected;
 must have a minimum paper-based TOEFL score of 525 (students must take a screening test conducted by the U.S. Embassy if they don’t have a TOEFL score, and must take the official TOEFL test after being nominated);
 should have little or no previous experience studying or working in the United States.

ELIGIBLE FIELDS OF STUDY:

(1) Sustainable Development: Agricultural and Rural Development; Economic Development/Finance and Banking; Natural Resources & Environmental Policy/Climate Change; Urban and Regional Planning

(2) Democratic Institution-Building: Communications/Journalism; Law and Human Rights; Public Policy Analysis and Public Administration; Trafficking in Persons Policy and Prevention; Technology Policy and Management; Human Resource Management

(3) Education: Educational Administration, Planning and Policy; Higher Education Administration; Teaching of English as a Foreign Language

(4) Public Health: Public Health Policy and Management; HIV/AIDS Policy and Prevention; Substance Abuse Education, Prevention, and Treatment

IMPORTANT: All grantees are expected to return to their home countries for at least two years at the conclusion of their grant in compliance with the J-visa requirements.

The Humphrey Fellowship covers: international/domestic travel costs, tuition and university fees, accident/health insurance, monthly stipend, and funding for educational materials and professional activities. The Humphrey Program does NOT provide financial support for accompanying dependents.

SUBMISSION: Please submit application one time only. Soft copies may be submitted to RangoonUSECA@state.gov. Hard copies may be sent or delivered to Cultural Affairs Unit, Public Affairs Section, U.S. Embassy, 110 University Ave, Kamayut Township, Yangon.
