Youth Leadership Program (YLP) with Myanmar

Youth Leadership Program (YLP) with Myanmar is a four-week program in April-May which seeks to promote high-quality leadership, civic responsibility, and civic activism among 16-18 year students. The program will be intensive, and highly interactive.


The program sponsors seek energetic applicants who are ready to develop their skills in order to be effective leaders in their schools and communities.
Students who may apply are those who:

  •  Will be at least 16 years old and not more than 18 years old on April 30, 2017
  • May be current undergraduate or high school students studying in Myanmar
  • Have good English skills, sufficient for understanding academic discussion and everyday social interactions
  • Have permission from parents and schools to participate in the entire program.

Adult participants in this program take on a unique role as a participant role model and as an active program participant. We expect the adult participants to be fully engaged in program activities while serving as a liaison between youth participants and program staff, should problems arise.

Adults who may apply:

  • Work with youth
  • Are community leaders or teachers
  • Have good English skills and a university degree
  • Are citizen of Myanmar residing in Myanmar
  • Are committed to continued work with youth participants after their return from the United States
  • Have travel experience outside their home state or province, such as to the national capital; international travel experience is not required
  • Are committed to the goals and ideals of the program, including civic leadership, diversity, and fostering positive regional and global interactions. 

Preference will be given to participants that have not previously traveled to the United States, especially on a U.S. government-sponsored program.
