Sawiris Foundation for Social Development is offering Engineering for Development (E4D) doctoral scholarships for the year 2017. The scholarships are offered to students who meet the entrance requirements for doctoral studies at ETH Zurich. The goal of the Engineering for Development (E4D) programme is to promote the development of products or methods which are directly relevant to improving the livelihoods of poor people in developing countries. ETH Global is the staff unit for international relations at ETH Zurich. It fosters international partnerships in research and education and enhances the institution’s visibility abroad.

Scholarships are available for pursuing the doctoral program.

Eligibility:
To be admitted to the selection process, the application has to fulfil the following requirements:
The candidate:
  • The entrance requirements for doctoral studies at the ETH Zurich and at the particular department must be fulfilled.
  • Experience in the selected research area is required.
  • Preference will be given to citizens of least developed countries and other low-income countries according to the OECD classification. 

Benefit:
Per proposal, a scholarship of CHF 175’000 can be granted for a period of three years (salary of doctoral student plus limited operational costs).
